About Me

My name is Christine Duckworth, and I am a 22 year old female who is about to enter the Middle Level Credentialing Program at CSUSM’s College of Education.  My core subject is Social Sciences, although I hope to test out of Math, where my true passion lies.  I have been to a number of schools throughout my life, which began in San Bernardino.  There, I attended three elementary schools and one middle school, followed by an additional two in Lake Elsinore and finally only one high school.   I have been a student at three community colleges located in Menifee, San Marcos, and now Carlsbad for additional credentialing-related coursework.  Point of story- I suppose three has come to be my lucky number (did I mention I am the third of four daughters).  I received a Bachelors in Liberal Studies from Cal State University San Marcos in Spring 2012, along with receiving the distinction: Magna Cum Laude.  I have always enjoyed learning in general.  Although I have had some very awkward moments throughout my years in the education system, I have always really enjoyed learning.  At times I found certain topics challenging and difficult, but it was never anything that a few hours of dedication could not fix.

While I do admire and use technology on a daily basis, I would not consider myself a "tech-savvy" person by any means.  I enjoy the usefulness of technology when I am lost or want a quick review of a local business, but I try my hardest not to use it as a crutch.  Often times I notice others finding difficulty in completing the simplest of tasks.  I strive to understand minute details and the basics when understanding technology.  For me, having a strong foundational understanding of how things work is something of utmost importance.  To be fully honest, however, I use my phone throughout the day; having an iPhone has made worlds of difference in my life.  Additionally, I use my new MacBook Pro computer several times a week.  I try my hardest to keep up with the newest and most useful technological advances.  Conversely, this does not substitute the joy I find in interpersonal communication.

My favorite part of the CSUSM and School of Education Mission Statement are the sections which encourage, "thoughtful educators and reflective teaching skills."  The proper growth, nourishment, and development of students starts with educators and their dedication to the profession.  If a teacher does not care for their students, this attitude reflects greatly within the classroom.  I am dedicated to being thoughtful in my practices and interacting well with students in order to ensure their mental, physical, educational, and emotional well-being.  The Mission Statement was a huge factor in my selection to attend CSUSM's Credentialing Program as it so closely reflects many of my own teaching philosophies.

  1. Hi Christine,

I wanted to let you know that I am a middle school SPED teacher so I would be happy to help you get some observations in with myself or the other teachers on campus. I think that it is crucial to get in as many observations as possible so please feel free to contact me. You have my email.

  2. Hello Amy,
That sounds absolutely wonderful, thank you so much! I feel that observations at the middle school level will be especially helpful, so I will definitely be taking you up on that offer. Also, I have been considering getting a Special Education Credential as well.. so we may be seeing a lot more of each other!
    Christine

  3. Hi Christine, we share two things in common. We both graduated with Social Science degrees from csusm, and we both live (or had in your case) lived in San Bernadino. I think its a challenge to make students interest in social sciences but I always make the discussion come alive by tying it to current events and see how they fit in the picture. I think I am the oldest person in this class but still love the challenges of studying.
